SRL 3 voice commands not working

Comentario oficial
This might need further investigation. I want to confirm the commands you are using start with "Hey, Sena..." for Sena and "Hey, Google..." or "Hey, Siri..." for your smartphone.
It's possible that you won't receive a notification that the voice assistant on your phone is activated, or there might be a setting on your phone that's preventing the voice activation. For example, on an iPhone, there's a setting that prevents Siri from being activated if the phone is face down, in your pocket, or the screen is off.
If your voice activation involves your phone, I recommend testing it with the phone on and not in standby (screen off).
in regards to iPhone settings, you can enable the facedown feature like thisTo enable the "Always Listen for 'Hey Siri'" feature on your iPhone:
- Go to your iPhone's settings.
- In the search bar, type in "Siri."
- Tap on "Accessibility."
- Toggle on the switch for "Always Listen for 'Hey Siri.'"
This will allow Siri to respond even when your phone's face is down or in your pocket.
if you have an android that will unfortunately have to be researched on your own, due to android devices being unique to each phone manufacture.

They don't work on mine either, in fact, out of 100 attempts, you can turn on the radio, for example, and then nothing more. Siri and Google work 99.9% of the time.
I took it to the store where I bought it and they couldn't get it to accept commands. When communicating with the manufacturer, it just sends manuals, which is absurd.
This is my first SENA and it will probably be my last, I am very disappointed...1 -
same problem: voice commands have disappeared on SRL3 since the 1.2 update, whereas the "hey siri" command works perfectly. i bought the device only 2 weeks ago; i've reset it without success.

Hi Alex ,thanks for replying.
I have tried with my iPhone and it works fine on my Caberg system, and likewise Siri on my new bday present Shoei neotec 3.
But no Hey Sena (said as Arton sena not John cena)doesn’t work.
I did take it back to the shop for a replacement (which they gave)and they said it is a voice learning system, and will take a few goes to get used to my voice !???
They also did say what do people expect and maybe a Cardo brick would be better ,which is a strange comment ,also that I cannot get a refund (consumer act will sort that)
like the other peeps are saying,is it a problem with the update?
Look forward to you Reply.0 -
I’m not in the position to check anything at the moment ,so Alex put your ideas out to the others that have bought into this system please.

I have had this same problem with the current unit I own, the SRL Mesh, and the previous unit I owned ,the 50S. At least the 50S would occasionally recognize word commands. This new one does not at all. i like the Mesh feature but these are certainly NOT hands free.

Same problem as everyone, purchased a new neotech3 at a rediculous price and even more with the SRL-3, I can't get hey Google to work, or hey sena to work, so frustrating but I shouldn't be supprised as I has a 50c and that doesn't work either, although that unit did get sent back to Sena, they said it all work fine.
So not quite sure what Sena class as no faults.
The SRL3 doesn't even allow me to listen music with out it jumping, freezing, stopping, starting. Frustrating is an understatement. All the updates have been carried out. I have also tried using it with the phone on and unlocked still no joy.I use Android so do give me apple ios instructions.

Dear all customers who have purchased this over priced non working as advertised device ,what is your current firmware version ,is it 2.6 ?

SLR 3 hay Sena not working for me ether. Current update is version 1.2 using a iPhone 12. Siri is the only voice command that’s recognized. Hay Google beeps but then closes down. Has this issue been fixed or resolved?

This is my 3rd ... and last!.... Sena unit! NONE of them have worked at all, or minimally, for voice commands. This has been a problem for years now, and the response from Sena has been ..... *crickets*..... I won't be purchasing another. There are now better options on the market and Sena's customer service is non existent. Their Quality Control Dept is either unaware or totally ignoring it. In any event I am done.......

Factory re-set helped but didn't fix all. Escalated again.

The more I look into this “hey Sena and hey Google “not working. I think the issue is with the Apple os and not Sena. On the IPhone anyway. Apple won’t even allow Google Asst. to work on the iPhone. You have to do a work around by putting a shortcut in the Siri app. Come to think about it my older Sena voice commands stopped working several iPhone software versions ago. It didn’t really bother me because I had my controls Bluetooth to my bike controls. And isn’t funny how well Siri works. Maybe Sena tech support could tell us that Sena doesn’t pay for Apple licensing so it will work.

I am having the same problem with Android - 'hello" works but nothing else. Reading the above comments leaves me with the thought that Sena is hiding a major problem which is not been addressed probably because they are very anxious about purchasers demanding a "not fit fit for purpose" claim!

After a few more diagnostics the unit was warrenty replaced.
Sena support stated a defective chipReplacement unit works (mostly) a 'hey google...' command now works too.

@Steve
Nice that ,but does this mean that we all will get replacement units ?
What I hate is spending money on supposedly quality gear from a supposed quality company ,and I get told that I cannot get a refund from the *&* Accessories store I bought it from (including the helmet).
So advertising premium goods that do not work as described and failure to follow consumer rights for bothe the Accessories store and the goods manufacture is a court case pending for all that have purchased the sr3 and the associated helmet.
Not fit for purpose as advertised .
You would think that Sena would be more proactive and answer questions on this forum ,like how can units be changed to include the new chip or complete refunds be honoured before class action is taken !!??0 -
Dear Sena,as you are informed previously,I have purchased a Shoie neo tech 3 with The SRL3 that is the communication system that was designed for the helmet and certification.
Did you as a company ,check the working of the SRL3 on the Shoie neo tech 3 to ensure compatibility with your published user manual and did you perform real world function tests on the SRL 3 installed on the Shoie NeoTech 3 to confirm compatibility and correct functionality of the SRL3 Unit

I feel your frustration and also share it.
Hence posting my journey here and elsewhere on the forum as I read the posts having, as it turned out, a defective unit right out of the box.
For transparency, I have no affiliation with Sena. I live in the Netherlands, but am British and purchased with a UK credit card in the Netherlands.
Now this offers me me quite a lot of consumer protection – fortunately. As there are UK laws about products being unfit for the purposes for which they are sold and there is an additional section 75 cc law whereby the relationship for payment is between myself and the cc company and the cc company and the vendor. Much to the annoyance of the Dutch vendors.
Regardless of all that, I am still obliged to revert to the manufacture/vendor in the first instance and this is what I sought to document for others in the same predicament.
So. Will you get a replacement unit? If it is within warranty. Yes, I would expect so. If not, then you must look to your local laws.
Of course. We can’t keep it ten years then demand a refund. Not that I am suggesting this is your experience. However, I doubt Sena staff read the forum and I encourage all to contact customer services, who seem to be based West coast USA, based on their reaction times. Be nice to them! They will help a friendlier person before an aggressive one and of course, yes, the do this and do that is bloody irritating but they are following thier diagnostic tree so the sooner you get to the end (honestly) the sooner you’ll get the answer for good or ill.
Do I think the srl3 is fit for purpose? No.
But for now, I have a functioning unit and just under two years where I can now say one failed out the box and the second one failed (if it happens) x weeks/months later. So under my local laws. It’s refund time.
BTW I did challange Sena on QA processes but received ‘Generic’ assurances...0 -
In my case I purchased the SLR 3 from a person who is not "in trade or business" so cannot claim anything so I am stuck with a semi-functional unit that lacks the voice command facilities but does otherwise perform. I paid far less than I would have if had purchased from a dealer so that is some consultation! However I do believe Sena have an ethical or moral responsibility to address this issue as Shoei (and probably Schuberth) have been saddled with a "pup" that is chained to a product of theirs which do meet claims made about their products. Perhaps in the interests of Shoei and Schuberth they should be informed about the shitty product they were persuaded to fit to their helmets (with no possible alternative unless you fit a unit to the outside of the helmet). Maybe then Sena might then well sit up and take notice and do something about fixing the SLR 3 - probably a software problem created by school boys!

For all of you having the same issues with the SLR-3 Sena and Google voice commands not being recognized. You should follow Steve’s recommendation and call Sena customer service and go through there trouble shooting. I recently went through it myself and it was determined I had a bad chip as well. Mine is being Warrantied. I have already sent mine back and they are sending me a new one with an updated chip. I’m crossing my fingers this solves all the issues. Look we all get upset when a product doesn’t work as advertised. But sometime a third party is involved like the chip manufacturer. I’m sure Sena does sample testing on there units. But as manufacturing ramps up it is possible for a bad batch of chip to get released.

Well Sena sent me the replacement unit. But that unit failed to answer “hay Sena” as well. The agent I was working with pushed me up to a higher level agent. He sent me a video of him testing the “hey Sena” commands working on the old unit that I sent in. But he did not say what phone he was using. Unfortunately I did not see his email video till after Sena closed. But I did install it to my wife’s iPhone 13 and it did not work on hers as well. So maybe the newest software doesn’t recognize “hey Sena” on the iPhone. I will update when I hear back from customer support.

Gave up trying to get voice commands to work so purchased Sena's remote control and that does work - very well in fact, so no need to be like the dog in a kennel barking endlessly and getting no result!!

Voice commands don't function.
MESH has problems.
But 370€ is still a request!
SENA probably cannot solve the problems and as I can see in here, it is not happening only with SRL 3.
There is no responsibility for SENA.
What SHOEI is doing? Because the specific pair gave me an additional star to purchase the Neotec 3. So, can anybody tell someone the reason why to spend 1100€+? Is SHOEI involved in this situation?0 -
I did get another video sent to me by a gentleman support agent named Alex. He showed me how to get my unit to recognize me. You have to speak very close to the mic and very clearly. The Hey Sena check battery and Mesh on worked ok. Had more issues with the Play music and stop music. I’m using a iPhone with my unit so I can use Siri. It’s funny how well Siri works with the SRL3 and Sena own voice Recognition software fail to be sensitive enough to hear my voice consistently. All my testing was done in my home in a Quiet environment. I don’t know how this is gonna work going down the road at normal highway speeds if it works at all.

I just splashed out on a Neotech II and Sena SRL3 Mesh yesterday and spent a couple of hours fiddling around to get my head around using it this morning.
One thing that didn't appear to work was "Hey Sena...", which lead me here.
While I was reading through the comments, a distant memory popped back into my brain. Back in the 1990's I was playing around with a prototype voice recognition system that Microsoft were trying with Windows NT, where you had to get the computer's attention by saying "Computer".
I just couldn't make it work.
Then, watching an episode of Star Trek, hearing the American voices say (what sounded to me like) "Compewder" I thought "I wonder", so I went to my computer and in a fake nasal American accent said "Compewder". And it worked!
I just had that insight again, put my helmet on, turned on the SRL and said "Hey Sena" with a fake American accent. It worked fine.
I guess most of you here are Poms/Aussies/etc ?0 -
It's been suggested to me that speaking in an American accent (Hey C-naar) may help. Also women's higher pitched voices also appear to make it work too so combining the two....
Did nothing for me
It's still hit & mis with both accent and/or higher pitch.Having had srl 3 for a while now, I've taken the odd phone call and am told they other party hears me just great with no background noise at all. So that's a plus 😃
I'm a Brit, living in the Netherlands and although the standard of English is exceotional, the Dutch also struggle with it.

I can give you my update after testing it on the bike for the last couple thousand miles. Hey Sena doesn’t work. Disappointing for a brand new product in this age of technology and price range. But not all is lost. I have my unit connected with my IPhone 12 and hey Seri works great with that. I can perform most of all the function of my iPhone with hey Siri. I can play my music apps, change tracks, raise and lower the volume, pause. As well as make and take phone calls. And much more with Siri commands. But Siri will not recognize Sena Bluetooth intercom system. You still have to use the manual buttons on the helmet. :(
You can contact customer support and they are friendly and want to help you. But the issue is with Sena hardware voice recognition technology. In my opinion I believe they just haven’t updated it and probably never will because of the cost. Personally I wish they would develop a iPhone app that would use Apples voice recognition technology to fully control the Sena hardware.

Same here...hey Google works fine..Sena doesn't.. first and last Sena product for me since they haven't provided a solution for a $300+ product and it's been a long time
