Most of these issues went away with Android 4.4. I don't know about the Note 3 specifically. Wish I could help.

Update to an old thread.. for those that use "search"... Android's release 4.3 takes care of the problem. (settings, about phone). The Sena now reacts to text messages correctly... albeit slooooow...

I just had a very similar problem with my Galaxy S3. There's a "Settings" in Bluetooth (on the phone) that turns on "Media Audio" and "Phone Audio". On mine, both had to be on to make it work.

I recently got a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I'm using the SMH5 unit. The bluetooth will connect on incoming calls, or if I use the phone to start a call, however it will not initiate a call to the phone...
