Better speakers
With all the great little headphone speakers out there, this is the best you could come up with. Wow. Can I replace them with something that can be heard clearly.?Thanks. Mike

On SMH5, anyway, I want better sound when playing music. There's no bass at higher volumes and treble frequencies are blurred. Better speakers as an option is one solution. An adapter that allows me to plug in my own earbuds would be fine with me, too.

The Sena people have that. SMH-A0303. I got it and it works fine. Have fun.

Well, yeah, but that's way more than I had in mind. I envision just a short cable with a standard mini stereo female on one end and a Sena SMH5 connector on the other. What is that connector on the SMH5, anyway, a mini-HDMI?

Standard miniplug, any earphones will plug in. I figured after what i had already spent it wasn't that much more to make it work as I wanted. If you are knowledgeable about electronics there may be some DIY way to adapt but would probably inactivate the warranty. Good luck.

Isn't the SMH-A0303 for the SMH10? I don't see it on the SMH5 accessories page . . .
I do see the larger speakers, but can anyone tell me if they are any better?

Just after geting the Large Speakers, can confirm they sound much better, alot less screechy. I wouldnt say they "hi-fi" quality but then thats hard to achieve due to the audio compresstion format used by current stereo bluetooth..... if your using an android-based smartphone for music, you can download an app called 'Equalizer' use it to reduce treble/highs and boost bass and low frequency, I found this made the sound a lot more "bearable" 0 -
We are providing Large Speakers for SMH5 as an accessory(SMH5-A0305). Please find it in our web site, http://www.senabluetooth.com/products/acc_SMH5-A0305.php. The performance will be improved as much as SMH10. Thank you.

Hi,
I haven't even attached my new SMH5's to our helments and already I'm wondering if I should be upgrading to the 10's?? After two failed attemps with "Scala Riders" I switched to Sena today and have just finnished "bench testing" them in anticipation of a ride with my wife tomorrow. So far i am SUPER happy with how they are working and am even more impressed at this forum and the responses from Sena. But i digress....
I agree with Mike's comments about a short cable the would plug into the SMH5 and that would accept a standard earbud connection. I realize the factory connection into the SMH5 serves both the boom mic and the speakers, but I typically listen to music when I ride alone and therefore could forego the need for the mic portion. And I dont really want to upgrade to the 10's just to get an earbud connection.
Thanks

How big are the Large Speakers for SMH5 --accessory(SMH5-A0305) ? Info on the web link posted earlier by Sena just seems to give the packaging size
Dimension: 230 mm x 100 mm x 20 mm (8.27 in x 5.32 in x 2.09 in)
Weight: 50 g (1.12 lb)I would need a very big crash helmet to fit speakers that big ;-)
Thanks
Steve

Just after measuring mine: There about twice the size of the small ones- 5mm thick, diameter 50mm (circular shape) 0 -
Thank you Richard for the information on the speaker size. Out of interest have you noticed any reduction in battery life since using the larger speakers ? (I assume the larger units use more current)

Will the larger speakers withe the locking type connector fit my SMH5 that does not currently have a locking type connector?
