After talks with Sena and their dev team, it seams that there is not a new firmware available as of yet. I am told that the problem is that the app is incorrectly telling us to do a firmware update. They are aware and should be working on an update for the app. The user manual and quick start guide are now available on the product page. HERE

I'm back with a nice update. I came home this morning to a flashing tail light indicating a new firmware update had been installed. After reviewing in the app, my helmet is now upgraded from 1.0.1 to 1.0.2.

I am promptred with a firmware update but when i try and do so it says: Firmware update failed. Cannot get status update[0][50][0]

    Did you have this issue?

I just let the helmet do the update on it's own. You must have it connected to the wifi and enable automatic updates. If you are receiving errors with the update, you may want to uninstall the app and start fresh. You could also try factory resetting the helmet and doing a wifi reset.

I am having the same issue. Downloaded the app to my phone and to my desktop, have gone through the written directions multiple times only to be stonewalled at the "failure to recognize device" portion of the routine. Following the directions from the app on my phone takes me nowhere as well... I am completely at a loss on what to do at this point.

    Joshua,

I would suggest a factory reset and Wi-Fi reset. After which you can connect the helmet to your Wi-Fi and enable automatic updates. Your helmet must be turned off and connected to a wall charger. If you are connected to a PC the Wi-Fi will not work. Once the update process starts you will see the tail light move like a progress bar to indicate that it is updating. Do not unplug the helmet until the light turns on and off as shown in the picture.

Well, I've been able to get the program up to the firmware update tab, but now it stops at "Failed to update firmware. Cannot get status [0][50][0]"

This is after having done the resets. Beginning to wonder if perhaps I'm either incredibly short-sighted and depressingly dense or if I somehow was delivered a defective helmet.

Are you trying to use the desktop software? If so, they may not have gotten it updated for compatibility with this helmet yet. I have updated two helmets with two different cell phones and it has worked flawlessly since they repaired their firmware.

Thanks Scott -- I'd been attempting to do the update solely through the desktop software and kept getting stuck at the same spot; tried it through my phone app following your instructions and the helmet updated first try. Much appreciated man.

I was using my laptop and couldn't understand why no wifi network, I plugged it into a wall socket and the light goes red as it's supposed to but the wifi network is not visible on either my phone or macbook. Is there a setting in the app to make wifi visible or should it just appear?

     Rob,

It should automatically show up when on wall power. I would recommend doing a Wi-Fi reset.

The built-in Wi-Fi setting will be restored to the factory default settings,
which include the Wi-Fi configuration setup, the firmware setup, and
    the language setup.

If you are still having trouble through the mobile app. I would try to use an android phone to complete the process. It may have a newer version of the app.

Thanks Scott, does this just reset the wifi or does it reset everything?

    Rob,

This only resets the Wi-Fi. There is another process when doing a full reset.

I followed instructions and reset my wifi, I was then able to find the network and join it on my Android phone. The app connected to my home network but then it gets to the screen above and just stops, there is nothing on the screen I can press to make it do anything. The light is a slow blinking blue that should indicate that it's charged and connected to wifi but there is no action on the led lights. What do I need to do next?

I have two suggestions. The first would be to open the settings menu in the top right corner, and turn off the automatic updates. This may allow you to manually update from the current screen. If that does not work I would recommend leaving the auto update option on and let it sit. It will begin the update when it has been on charge and connected for some time. This will be indicated by the tail light.

I was just about to try what you suggested but noticed that the app now displays the upgraded firmware version, it must have happened when I wasn't watching.

Although when I went in to the LED bit to turn it off, it tells me I have to update firmware, is a reset necessary now refresh the system?

Turn off the helmet, unplug it, and restart the app. This should do the trick. Although the firmware update instruction do say that you need to reset the helmet to work, I did not need to do that.

After multiple resets, I was finally able to connect to the helmet, but now I am unable to connect the helmet to my actual wi-fi connection.

    Hello David.

It looks to me like this is an issue with the app and your phone. It may be that the app does not have permission to access Wi-Fi or location data. I cannot really tell, but it looks like you are using an iPhone. Unfortunately I haven't touched one since I worked at Radio Shack and thus don't know enough to troubleshoot that issue. I would recommend first trying a Wi-Fi reset on the helmet. If that doesn't work, I would try an android phone.

    Hi David,

I had trouble resetting wifi with the 1sec push, what i did was open my wifi settings on my phone and make sure it is scanning, then I just kept pushing the reset button for varying degrees of time until the sena wifi showed up on my phone. I then went back into the sena app and connected.

So according to their help desk my only choices are to buy an additional sena wireless adaptor or live with closing a required firmware update every time I open the app? How long ago was updating firmware over bluetooth a standard thing for Bluetooth devices? 10 years?

Robert, what are you trying to do? and how are you trying to do it?

Ok since the tech support doesn't know, it's not documented anywhere and it's not really explained well in this thread I'll list out the steps for anyone searching for this in the future. When the app says your options are the wifi base, wifi adaptor, or "plugging your helmet in with the included charger" what it really means is that the helmet has it's own built in wifi that activates when you are charging the helmet. In the "update via wifi" section when it says you have to be on the same network as the adaptor, it means if you have the station, adaptor OR using the helmets built in wifi it has to be connected to the same wifi network as your phone.

    1) Plug your helmet into the charger

    2) Open the wifi settings on your phone and look for a sena-stryker-XXXXX wifi network. If there is none, hold the bottom button on the helmet for 1 second until it turns purple then look for the network again. Then connect to the network

    3) open the sena motorcycles app on your phone

    4) it should open to a wifi select screen. select your home's 2.4 ghz network and enter it's password. This will connect the helmet to your home network.

5)make sure your phone is also connected to the same 2.4 ghz network

    6) open the app and ignore the "let's get your device connected" screen. Instead select the gear/cogwheel icon in the top right to go to settings.

    7) select update via wifi then start. It should now start updating the firmware.

If it still gives you the screen saying they both have to be on the same network, either the helmet didn't connect to your home wifi correctly and you have to press the bottom button again for 1 second to get the purple light then redo the steps starting from connecting to the sena-stryker wifi network, or your phone isn't connected to the same network you connected your helmet to.

The first step should be to reset the wi-fi settings on the helmet. After that is done everything makes sense.
